The Pomeroy Inn: Northampton, Massachusetts
Historic Bed & Breakfast – a few blocks from Downtown and .8 mile from Smith College
You will be only three blocks from Downtown, so you can walk to the restaurants, coffee shops and numerous stores, galleries, bookstores, and music venues. Smith College is only a twelve-minute walk from The Pomeroy Inn through Downtown. Northampton has situated rental bicycles all over town; if you prefer cycling around town or on the numerous bike paths, you can rent a bike for several hours or a day and conveniently return it to any station in town.
I just converted this gorgeous 1868 family home into a bed and breakfast in the Spring of 2018. It was my dream to live in a home of this character and offer the opportunity to others to stay here with me when they visit the area. The home now contains two guest rooms available for short-term rental.
One is a junior suite that offers a queen bed and twin daybed, so it can accommodate up to three persons (Penny Lane). It has an optional sitting area in front of the daybed with a small round table and two extra chairs for comfy chatting. The private bathroom off Penny Lane boasts a walk-in shower with glass floor-to-ceiling door, large vanity, and linen closet filled with extra pillows, towels, hair dryer, and assorted necessities for the traveler. The other guest room (Strawberry Fields) has an antique full size bed, small dining table and chair for the business guests or students, and a full size dresser. It also opens into its own private bath with full size shower, pedestal sink, and built-in shelves with extra linens, hair dryer, etc. Strawberry Fields can accommodate two, but keep in mind the full size bed is not designed for very tall bodies!! Besides the private bath, each guest room has heat & air conditioning, a rack for hanging clothes, bedtime white noise machines, and a dresser for those who like to unpack!
Amenities and House Protocols
A light breakfast and coffee is served each morning on the spacious, screened side porch (in three seasons) or in the dining room (winter). Guests can enjoy relaxation on the porch in the evenings, or hang out in the side yard with table and chairs reserved only for guests. Wifi is available for guests. The parlor and dining room are also available for guest use, and those who would like to play can use the piano during regular hours. All occupants in the home observe quiet hours between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. unless special events are pre-arranged, so this is not a good venue for guests who are interested in lots of partying. I also ask that guests remove shoes upon entering; booties are available for those who prefer not to go barefoot.
I live and work here in the B & B, so am usually available to transport guests to/from the train or bus stations or to answer questions that guests may have. Also, I am available by cell phone from 8:00 a.m. to 10 p.m. or in case of emergencies a guest can always knock on my door. A graduate student lives in the 3rd floor apartment year round, so you may run into her as well as me from time to time.
